As the number of patients infected with the novel coronavirus rapidly increases in Daegu, suspected patients are flocking to the Nam-gu Public Health Center in Daegu on the afternoon of the 21st. [Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The government has secured the list of approximately 9,300 Shincheonji Church members in the Daegu area and plans to conduct diagnostic tests for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) after quarantine measures. They will also check for recent overseas travel or visits to medical institutions.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for COVID-19 announced at a briefing on the 22nd that they obtained the list of 9,334 church members in two phases over the past two days. All 4,474 members secured in the first phase have been placed under self-quarantine and are being managed through dedicated officials from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, local governments, and the Shincheonji church organization. Among those quarantined in the first phase, 544 individuals showing symptoms are undergoing diagnostic testing.
For the 4,860 members secured in the second phase, self-quarantine and symptom checks are currently underway. Diagnostic tests will be conducted for those exhibiting symptoms. Additionally, all members will be investigated regarding recent overseas travel or visits to medical institutions. Deputy Director Kim Kang-rip stated, "For the approximately 9,000 quarantined individuals, it is deemed more appropriate to conduct diagnostic tests without them going out, so a mobile specimen collection team will be deployed to carry out the testing."
