US Pushes 5G Meeting of Anti-Huawei Camp Including Samsung and Nokia

[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The U.S. government is reportedly planning to hold a 5th generation mobile communication (5G) meeting at the White House in April, gathering telecommunications equipment companies from allies such as Europe and South Korea, according to U.S. media on the 21st (local time).

CNBC reported on the 21st (local time), citing officials, that "(the U.S. government) is pushing to hold a '5G Summit' at the White House in early April," adding that "this is part of efforts to block Huawei's dominance in the 5G field." The official explained, "The plan is to invite companies from allied countries," mentioning "Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung are included."

CNBC evaluated the move as "urging allies not to use Huawei's 5G equipment while also aiming to gather information in the technology sector."

Larry Kudlow, Chairman of the White House National Economic Council (NEC), also said, "We are planning some kind of conference in about a month. We are discussing closely and carefully with Nokia and Ericsson." He added, "Samsung will also be included," and "President Trump will partially attend."
