52 Cases in the Morning Followed by 48 in the Afternoon, Total Increase of 100 Cases in One Day

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 21st that 48 additional confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have been identified. Following the 52 new cases confirmed in the morning, 48 more cases were confirmed in the afternoon, totaling 100 new cases in a single day. The total number of confirmed domestic cases has risen to 204.
According to the Disease Control Headquarters, among the 48 newly confirmed cases, the majority?42 cases?were from the Daegu area. All are linked to the Shincheonji Daegu Church. This church was visited by patient number 31, confirmed on the 18th, and the health authorities currently consider it a 'super-spreader site' based on the circumstances.
Among the 2 additional patients confirmed in Seoul, one is also linked to the Shincheonji Church. Seocho District Office confirmed that a 59-year-old man residing in the district attended the Daegu Shincheonji Church on the 12th. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing for the other patient in Seoul.
The 2 newly confirmed cases in Gyeongnam and 1 additional case in Gwangju are also related to the Shincheonji Church. The health authorities judge that 46 out of the 48 newly confirmed cases today are connected to this church. The remaining one case is from the Gyeonggi area and is under epidemiological investigation. No additional cases were confirmed this afternoon at Daenam Hospital in Cheongdo, Gyeongbuk.
So far, the number of people tested for COVID-19 has increased by more than 1,500 since 9 AM, totaling 16,400 (including confirmed cases) as of 4 PM. Among them, 13,016 tested negative and have been released from quarantine, while 3,180 tests are still in progress. The number of patients released from quarantine after full recovery has increased by one, totaling 17. Excluding one death, 186 patients are currently isolated and receiving treatment.
