[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Kim Byung-won, the preliminary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea in Naju·Hwasun, Jeonnam, announced on the 21st, “We will actively promote education policies centered on establishing a provincial energy Meister High School (tentative name) linked with Korea Electric Power Corporation University (KEPCO University) and building a children and youth theme complex center, aiming to make Bitgaram Innovation City the nation’s top ‘Edu City.’”
The Energy Meister High School will nurture practical and excellent talents through field-oriented technical education, in collaboration with KEPCO University, which is scheduled to open in 2022.
Regarding this, preliminary candidate Kim Byung-won plans to first gather opinions from local residents about the establishment of the Meister High School, form a ‘Meister High School Establishment Committee,’ and then discuss the matter at the National Assembly level with the Ministry of Education, Jeonnam Province, and Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education.
He also plans to explore various options, such as establishing the Meister High School within Bitgaram Innovation City or converting existing high schools in Naju into Meister High Schools.
The project to attract second campuses of major universities such as Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology within the Bitgaram Innovation City cluster site to foster an industry-academia convergence campus is also included in candidate Kim’s pledges. These campuses will build an organic network with clusters and operating companies related to energy, serving as key talent development institutions that research and develop various core tasks.
Building an artificial intelligence (AI) and software (SW) experience center to lead the 4th Industrial Revolution, as well as a theme complex center consisting of a children’s library and exclusive cultural spaces for youth, is also one of the core ideas supporting the Edu City.
The experience center will enhance capabilities through customized education tailored to diverse demands, fostering computational thinking, problem-solving skills, communication skills, and application abilities. The theme complex center will be used as an exclusive space to nurture the dreams and hopes of children and youth who will carry the future of the local community.
Preliminary candidate Kim Byung-won stated, “We will implement a Naju-type lifelong education system linked with local universities and companies, promote specialized job training programs for full-time housewives and women with career interruptions, and prepare for the 100-year life era aimed at a second act in life. We plan to establish and implement more innovative education programs in Bitgaram Innovation City than any other local government, thereby truly building an innovative Edu City.”
