[Asia Economy Reporter Yang Nak-gyu] The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced on the 21st that, following the occurrence of a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) at Daegu Veterans Hospital, the hospital's emergency room will be closed for two weeks and outpatient services will be temporarily suspended.
At Daegu Veterans Hospital, inpatients and hospital staff who may have come into contact with the confirmed COVID-19 patient have been placed under self-quarantine, and disinfection of hospital facilities and control of entrances and exits have been strengthened.
Using closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other means, the movement routes and transportation methods of the confirmed COVID-19 patient are being traced backward to continuously identify suspected cases. Inpatients showing suspicious symptoms such as fever and pneumonia will undergo comprehensive screening to prevent further infections.
The Ministry explained, "To minimize inconvenience to patients due to the closure of the emergency room and suspension of outpatient services, approximately 30,000 outpatients of Daegu Veterans Hospital were notified in advance via text messages to seek their understanding."
The Ministry added that it will also do its utmost to manage disinfection and prevention efforts at the Central Veterans Hospital as well as the Busan, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Incheon Veterans Hospitals to block and prevent COVID-19.
