[Asia Economy Reporter Son Sun-hee] Another doctor caring for patients with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, has died after becoming infected.
According to local Chinese media on the 21st, Peng Yinhua, a respiratory department doctor at a hospital in Wuhan, died at around 9:50 p.m. (local time) yesterday at the hospital where he was admitted after contracting COVID-19. The 29-year-old had postponed his wedding, which was scheduled for the 1st of last month, and devoted himself to treating COVID-19 patients while guarding the isolation ward, a story that has added to the sorrow.
Local media reported that Peng refused his colleagues' advice to spend time with his fianc?e, saying, "Let colleagues with families rest more, and since I am young, I will endure for now," before putting on protective gear and rushing to the treatment site.
However, he was admitted to the hospital where he worked at the end of last month, the day of the Chinese New Year 'Chunje,' after showing symptoms such as coughing and fever. His condition worsened, and he was transferred to Jinyintan Hospital at the end of last month, where he ultimately passed away despite treatment efforts.
Following the death of Dr. Li Wenliang, who initially warned about the spread of COVID-19 in China on the 7th, this case of a healthcare worker dying from infection while treating patients is expected to cause considerable impact in Chinese society.
