Gyeongui-Jungang Line Train Overhead Line Failure... Recovery Expected Within About 1 Hour (Update 2)

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Korea Railroad (KORAIL) announced that around 7:02 AM on the 21st, a catenary line failure occurred on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line in the direction from Seobinggo to Yongsan, causing train delays in this section.

The failure was confirmed to have occurred when a large truck (box truck) passed through the Nambu railroad crossing between Seobinggo and Ichon Station with its wing body open, contacting the catenary line and causing a power outage.

As a result, train operations on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line from Cheongnyangni to Yongsan Station (via Wangsimni Station) and between Yongsan and DMC Station have been suspended.

However, trains traveling from Yongsan to Cheongnyangni Station and between Munsan and DMC Station on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line are operating normally.

Regarding the Gangneung Line KTX, operations between Seoul and Cheongnyangni Station have been suspended, while services between Cheongnyangni and Gangneung Station are maintained. KORAIL advised passengers planning to use Seoul Station to use Cheongnyangni Station instead.

A KORAIL official stated, “Emergency restoration work is currently underway on the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and the restoration is expected to be completed within about one hour.”
