[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 20th, Kim Boo-kyum, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, appealed regarding the consecutive occurrences of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in the Daegu area, saying, "Please refrain from words that could shrink Daegu. Please help Daegu and Gyeongbuk."

On the 20th, Kim posted on his Facebook, "There was a plenary session of the National Assembly this morning, and in the afternoon, the Democratic Party's election countermeasures committee was launched. I became a member of the committee as the person responsible for Daegu and Gyeongbuk," adding, "I wore a mask the whole time to emphasize to the entire nation how critical the situation is in Daegu and Gyeongbuk due to the surge in confirmed cases."

He continued, "I had the opportunity to make a general remark and asked, 'Please do not disparage Daegu,'" emphasizing, "Just because one individual failed to respond wisely and caused inconvenience to many, it does not mean the entire Daegu and Gyeongbuk should be condemned."

Meanwhile, Kim especially appealed to supporters of our party, saying, "Please firmly show that you will not turn your backs on fellow citizens just because of political differences."

Kim also appealed for the necessity of a supplementary budget. He said, "During my general remarks, I once again requested the formation of a supplementary budget to support self-employed and small business owners," adding, "Assemblyman Yoo Seong-yeop of the Democratic Integrated Assembly also made the same claim, and Assemblyman Jeong Tae-ok of the United Future Party demanded the declaration of a special disaster area."

Kim pointed out, "The leader of the United Future Party opposed again, calling it 'pouring blood tax money,'" and questioned, "Wasn't Daegu and Gyeongbuk the stronghold of the United Future Party?" On the same day, Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, stated at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly in the morning, "We must be faithful to the basics of the economy. If you plan to pour blood tax money again under the pretext of COVID-19, you should stop immediately."

He addressed the United Future Party, saying, "Today, the IMF (International Monetary Fund) expressed concerns about Korea's COVID-19 situation and urged the operation of expansionary fiscal policy and stimulative monetary policy," and added, "Please stop opposing and look toward the people."
