Seoul Gangseo-gu, Full Efforts to Prevent COVID-19 Spread Including 11 Traditional Markets

Designated and Managed as a 'Clean Market' Safe to Visit After Disinfection... Saemaeul Leaders Association Partners with Volunteer Disaster Prevention Team for Regular Disinfection

Seoul Gangseo-gu, Full Efforts to Prevent COVID-19 Spread Including 11 Traditional Markets

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is making every effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and create a "safe market, a market where visitors can feel at ease."

The district will complete disinfection by the 23rd for 745 stores in 11 traditional markets (including Kkachisan Market and 10 other markets) and 230 stores in the Gangseo Distribution Complex to alleviate anxiety caused by COVID-19 and revive the depressed local economy.

In particular, in six alley-type traditional markets with a high risk of infection spread, over 200 hand sanitizers and 6,000 masks were distributed, and 1,000 masks were also distributed to the Gangseo Distribution Complex.

Markets that have completed disinfection are designated as "Clean Markets" where visitors can feel safe, and COVID-19 prevention guidelines are provided to raise residents' awareness.

The district is intensifying disinfection efforts in cooperation with the Saemaul Leaders Association (President Kim Byung-nam) and the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group (Leader Kim Kwang-geun) to ensure continuous disinfection in the Clean Markets.

The Saemaul Leaders Association (110 members across 20 neighborhoods) has completed disinfection at 150 daycare centers in the area, and the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group (336 members across 20 neighborhoods) has disinfected 130 children's parks and other multi-use facilities.

Regular disinfection is conducted at disinfected locations at least once a week, and immediate disinfection is carried out upon requests from low-income residents and others in the community.

If disinfection is needed, residents can request it at their local community service center, which will coordinate with the Saemaul Leaders Association or the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group.

Additionally, the district is cracking down on hoarding of masks and other quarantine supplies, mainly targeting small wholesale stores and e-commerce companies, and will continue self-inspections until the situation is resolved to prevent market disorder.

District Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, "We are making every effort to overcome the depressed consumer sentiment caused by COVID-19," and added, "We ask residents to use the markets actively so that they can regain vitality."
