Former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon (Democratic Party) announced on the 20th that he will undergo testing for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). This decision comes after the senior welfare center in Jongno, Seoul, which he visited on the 6th, was closed due to a COVID-19 outbreak. When rumors suggesting a possible infection began circulating, he took direct action to dispel the controversy.

According to Lee's campaign, the welfare center was temporarily closed on the 1st after a confirmed COVID-19 case was reported in Jongno district, and the entire facility was disinfected on the 3rd. Lee visited the center on the 6th to encourage the staff and inspect the facility. It is reported that he used a mask and hand sanitizer during the visit.

Following the advice of his aides, the prospective candidate will undergo testing along with his spouse tomorrow. Regarding this, the campaign stated, "Currently, 14 days have passed, which is known as the incubation period, and there are no symptoms. According to the National Medical Center, he does not fall within the scope of those who must be tested."

Lee will receive the COVID-19 test on the morning of the 21st. If confirmed to be free of any issues, he plans to continue his schedule from the afternoon by visiting institutions and organizations.
