Establishing a Safety Net for Women in Society
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] On the 20th, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency announced that it held an inauguration ceremony for the Women's Safety Measures Council at its headquarters, appointing nine key female experts as committee members in areas such as sexual violence, domestic violence, and prostitution.
The inauguration ceremony proceeded in the order of introducing the Busan Police's women's safety policies, explaining the operation plan of the Women's Safety Measures Council, awarding appointment certificates, and holding a free discussion.
Last year, the Busan Police Agency engaged in communication with women's organizations by holding four meetings and receiving and resolving 42 issues related to women's affairs.
To create a communication channel that can regularly collect diverse opinions from women's groups, the inauguration ceremony was held after about four months of discussions, including selecting committee members and establishing detailed implementation plans.
The Women's Safety Measures Council aims to build a "women's safe social safety net" and plans to promote detailed tasks such as ▲ establishing a systematic network through regular communication ▲ discovering and carrying out various joint projects to strengthen collaboration ▲ forming mutual trust through continuous exchanges.
Representatives of women's organizations active in Busan in areas such as sexual violence, domestic violence, and prostitution have been appointed as external committee members. Quarterly regular meetings and working-level meetings will be held alternately to discuss the overall direction of women's policing policies.
In particular, various activities for women's safety will be carried out, including strengthening the linkage between the police and counseling centers, conducting gender sensitivity education for field police officers by inviting female experts, and launching promotional campaigns jointly with women's organizations and the police.
At the appointment ceremony, Byeon Jeonghee, representative of the Busan Women's Organizations Federation, said, "I applaud the Busan Police for showing a new paradigm in policing through the promotion of the Women's Safety Measures Council," and added, "We will do our best to establish it as an active communication channel with women's organizations."
Kim Changryong, Commissioner of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, stated, "We will break away from the supplier-centered policing policy practices and promote a demand-centered women's safety policy that reflects women's opinions," and expressed expectations that "the Women's Safety Measures Council will play a pivotal role as a communication channel."
