[Asia Economy Reporters Kang Nahum and Jeon Jinyoung] The Democratic Party of Korea launched its election countermeasures committee on the 20th, officially transitioning into full-scale general election mode.
On the same day in the afternoon, the Democratic Party held the inauguration ceremony and first meeting of the 'Republic of Korea Future Preparation Election Countermeasures Committee' at the National Assembly.
Party leader Lee Hae-chan and former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon will serve as co-chairmen of the election committee, leading the overall general election campaign. Lee Hae-chan will oversee the 'Central Election Committee,' managing regional election committees nationwide, organization, election strategies, and party administration, while former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon will lead the 'Future Election Committee,' overseeing three planning teams and 24 committees that encompass pledges, future visions, and values.
The co-chairmen of the election committee total 22 members, including 11 regional election committee chairpersons. The regional chairpersons are composed of lawmakers Lee In-young (Capital Region), Kim Jin-pyo (Southern Gyeonggi), Jeong Seong-ho (Northern Gyeonggi), Song Young-gil (Incheon), Lee Gae-ho (Honam), Park Byeong-seok (Chungcheong), Kim Young-choon (Busan), Kim Boo-kyum (Daegu·Gyeongbuk), Kim Doo-kwan (Gyeongnam·Ulsan), Kang Chang-il (Jeju), and former Gangwon Governor Lee Kwang-jae (Gangwon).
Additionally, Supreme Council members Park Jumin, Park Gwang-on, Seol Hoon, Kim Hae-young, Nam In-soon, Lee Su-jin, and Lee Hyung-seok, as well as the first recruited talent Professor Choi Hye-young, Hwang Hee-du from the Nomination Management Committee, former Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Chairman Kim Ju-young, and Jo Hee-kyung, head of the Animal Freedom Union, were also appointed as co-chairmen of the election committee.
In his opening remarks, Lee Hae-chan requested, "As the election approaches, various controversies and information leaks occur; I ask for strict management to ensure this does not happen again."
Former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon stated, "We will not engage in combative politics or negative campaigning, but we will firmly respond to fake news and false slanders," adding, "We will practice politics of dignity and trust starting from the April 15 general election."
