Gwangju City to Distribute 342 Electric Vehicles This Year Gwangju City Hall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 20th that it will supply 342 electric vehicles (272 passenger cars, 70 trucks) and 86 electric two-wheelers this year.

Eligibility requirements include residents who have lived in the Gwangju area for more than six months, companies and organizations with business sites located in the Gwangju area, and the supply will be made in order of delivery. The project may end early if the budget is exhausted.

The electric vehicle models eligible include 22 passenger car models and 3 ultra-small passenger car models, totaling 29 models from 12 companies. The electric two-wheeler models include 1 light cargo type and 3 small types, totaling 26 models from 14 companies.

This year’s subsidy ranges from 6.5 million KRW to 14 million KRW per electric passenger car, and for electric two-wheelers, support ranges from 1.5 million KRW to 3.3 million KRW depending on the type, such as general or large.

Of the total quantity, 20% is preferentially allocated to vulnerable groups, families with multiple children, taxi drivers, and those replacing old diesel vehicles. Additionally, if a household below the near-poverty line purchases an electric vehicle, an extra 10% of the national subsidy amount, up to 9 million KRW, will be provided.

Citizens wishing to purchase should check the supported models on the city’s website under notices and announcements, then visit the electric vehicle manufacturer’s sales office to sign a purchase contract, and apply for the purchase subsidy through the sales office’s subsidy support system.

Meanwhile, electric vehicle purchasers who receive subsidies must comply with the mandatory operation period of two years as stipulated in Article 79-3, Paragraph 1 of the Enforcement Rules of the Air Quality Preservation Act.
