Damyang-gun Awarded 'Excellence Prize' in Local Tax Collection Rate Improvement Evaluation

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 20th that it received an excellence award and a prize money of 30 million won as a result of last year's local tax collection rate improvement evaluation conducted by Jeollanam-do targeting 22 cities and counties.

The county achieved a local tax collection rate of 96.65% last year.

During the special collection period, the Tax Accounting Division officials operated a joint collection team and carried out strong collection activities such as property seizure and confiscation of license plates of delinquent vehicles, resulting in a 0.6% increase compared to the previous year.

The joint delinquent collection team plans to send unified delinquency notices to all defaulters and induce voluntary payment as much as possible through prior publicity such as village chief meetings to collect delinquent amounts this year.

The county continuously carried out multifaceted delinquency measures such as seizure of deposits and real estate, and confiscation of license plates of delinquent vehicles against habitual and chronic defaulters who delay payment.

For high-amount defaulters, strong collection measures will be taken through administrative sanctions such as public record information, restriction of licensed businesses, and public disclosure of names.

A county official said, "This achievement reflects the sincere tax payment awareness of the residents," and added, "For livelihood-type defaulters facing difficult economic situations, we will guide installment payments to induce voluntary payment and reduce delinquent amounts through multifaceted collection activities."
