“Youth and Small Business Forces Must Take the Lead”
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 20th, Jeong Dong-young, leader of the Democratic Peace Party, stated regarding the merger of the Bareunmirae Party, the Alternative New Party, and the Democratic Peace Party, "I plan to resolve this issue soon through a meeting with Sohn Hak-kyu, leader of the Bareunmirae Party," and added, "Having only the three Honam parties is not as good as going with just the Democratic Peace Party."
At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Leader Jeong said, "The merger has already entered the entrance. And the exit has already been agreed upon," adding, "No one opposes going through the merger. Only the distance from the entrance to the exit remains."
Leader Jeong emphasized, "The Democratic Peace Party has upheld principles and, as we announced with our first and second general election pledges, we have an agenda," and "We are also a party that has carried out electoral system reform. Is there any party that truly has an agenda and achievements?"
Leader Jeong said, "The three Honam parties alone are far from sufficient. To realize the multi-party era intended by electoral system reform, a practical merger of alternative parties and alternative forces is necessary," and added, "When youth and small business owner forces take the lead and the Honam forces support together, the two-party election structure of the Democratic Party of Korea and the United Future Party will be shaken."
