Dongdaemun-gu Enhances Initial Fire Response at Traditional Markets with Portable Fire Extinguishers

700 Spray-Type Portable Fire Extinguishers Distributed to Major Stores in 11 Traditional Markets in Districts and Regions

Dongdaemun-gu Enhances Initial Fire Response at Traditional Markets with Portable Fire Extinguishers

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) is making various efforts to prevent fires during the winter season.

The district recently distributed 700 units of "spray-type portable fire extinguishers" to traditional markets and commercial areas vulnerable to fire, and completed safety inspections of facilities, electrical systems, and gas installations.

The "spray-type portable fire extinguishers" distributed by the district are lightweight (550g) and easy to use. Even relatively elderly traditional market merchants can operate them easily, enabling quick initial response to extinguish fires.

Along with distributing the extinguishers, the district guided traditional market merchants on the use and maintenance of fire extinguishers and urged them to pay close attention to preventing safety accidents.

Furthermore, within this year, the district plans to establish a "Smart Fire Alert Service" at major locations such as 217 spots in Gyeongdong Market and 61 spots in Cheongnyangni Traditional Market by integrating fire alarms with Internet of Things (IoT) technology to enable one-stop fire detection, reporting, and situation dissemination.

Additionally, maintenance will be carried out on aging electrical wiring with a high risk of short circuits within Cheongnyangni Traditional Market.

In particular, the "Smart Fire Alert Service" is expected to be very effective for timely response in case of fire, as wireless detectors installed in each store immediately detect main ignition factors such as smoke, heat, and flames, sending real-time alarms to the fire station, and within 10 seconds, text messages containing the on-site CCTV footage and fire location are sent to store owners and surrounding merchants.

You Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "Traditional markets have a high risk of large-scale accidents in case of fire," and added, "We will do our best to create safer traditional markets through safety facility improvements and system establishment."
