[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) will begin recruiting students for the 11th Gwanak Herbal School, where participants can gain diverse knowledge about medicinal herbs, starting from the 24th.
The ‘Gwanak Herbal School’ is a lifelong learning course held annually since 2015 in collaboration with the social cooperative ‘Heojun Herbal School.’ It is a popular well-being program in Gwanak-gu that teaches the benefits of medicinal herbs useful in daily life and allows participants to obtain the private certification of Herbal Manager.
It offers not only basic knowledge to understand and utilize medicinal herbs helpful in everyday life but also teaches how to apply them, receiving especially favorable reviews from residents preparing for farming or those interested in urban agriculture.
The 11th Herbal School will be held from March 16 to June 29, every Monday from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, on the 5th floor of the Gwanak-gu Lifelong Learning Center, consisting of 16 sessions.
The main lecture topics include ▲herbs good for immunity ▲herbs beneficial for dieting ▲herbs that heal mental ailments, among others. Additionally, there will be two ‘Gangwon-do Herbal Field Experience’ sessions where participants can practice making fermented enzymes and learn about herbal efficacy with herbal experts.
The tuition fee is 50,000 KRW, and the field trip participation fee for the two sessions held in Inje and Hongcheon, Gangwon-do, is 60,000 KRW per session.
Anyone who is a resident of Gwanak-gu or works in Gwanak-gu can participate. Recruitment for 60 people will be on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 10 AM on the 24th through the Gwanak-gu Office website (News & Notices → Gwanak News).
So far, a total of 412 people have completed the Gwanak Herbal School, with 285 of them obtaining the Herbal Manager certification. Even after completion, participants have formed herbal clubs to continue their activities.
Mayor Park Junhee said, “The Gwanak Herbal School is a lifelong learning course designed for the healthy lives of residents, providing a great opportunity to learn about, touch, and experience various medicinal herbs,” and added, “We hope many residents interested in herbs will participate.”
