Full Survey of 17,908 Cases of Unpaid Regular Registration License Tax This Year...Plan to Cancel Charges Ex Officio and Update Tax Ledger After Confirming Business Closure
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (District Mayor Yoodonggyun·photo) will conduct a full investigation by the end of March on 17,908 cases classified as unpaid regular registration license tax for 2020, and will begin the task of organizing taxable targets.
The district imposes the regular registration license tax every January on license-registered business operators. However, many business operators do not report license cancellation to the licensing authority even after closing their business, resulting in the registration license tax still being imposed.
In particular, many cases occur where business operators who have reported business closure to the tax office mistakenly believe this is a license cancellation report and file complaints with the licensing authority that imposed the registration license tax.
Accordingly, the district plans to conduct a full investigation of closed business sites by the end of March and compare and verify the data of business closure reports from the tax office.
If the business closure is confirmed as a result of the investigation, the unpaid registration license tax will be canceled ex officio according to the Local Tax Act, and the registration license tax ledger will be organized to prevent the registration license tax (license portion) from being imposed again in the future.
In particular, licenses related to food hygiene business, telemarketing business, rental business, etc., which generate many complaints related to registration license tax, will undergo business closure investigations and appropriate imposition measures. For business operators who have moved to regions other than Mapo-gu, they will be guided to promptly apply for business address changes to the relevant licensing authority.
Yoodonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “Through this comprehensive investigation related to the registration license tax, we will reorganize the local tax imposition system once again and minimize taxpayer inconvenience to implement a more trusted tax administration.”
