[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province will open four additional community-accessible school libraries by June next year.
The target schools are Dandae, Daeha, Geumbit, and Sangtap Elementary Schools, selected in consultation with the Seongnam Office of Education.
Seongnam City will provide these schools with 300 million KRW for library remodeling, and an annual 23 million KRW for book purchases and program operation expenses.
Each school will improve the library facilities as reading culture spaces for students and local residents and will reopen according to a schedule.
They will operate various programs such as free book browsing and lending, reading academies, and meetings with authors.
Earlier, on the 17th, the city signed a written business agreement with the Seongnam Office of Education and Dandae, Daeha, Geumbit, and Sangtap Elementary Schools regarding these matters.
With the reopening of libraries at these four schools, the number of community-accessible school libraries in Seongnam will increase to 13, including the existing nine locations: Anmal, Jangan, Sujeong, Jungwon, Ori, Seongnam Yeosu, Sangdaewon, Taepyeong Elementary Schools, and Sangwon Girls' Middle School.
