[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] It has been reported that the top leader of Liaoning Province in China has ordered the resumption of operations for Hyundai Motor’s partner companies in Liaoning Province, which had suspended operations due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
According to Yonhap News on the 19th, citing the Korean Consulate General in Shenyang, Chen Qiufa, Secretary of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, held a meeting with local Korean company officials at the CJ Bio factory in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, and made this statement.
At the meeting, Secretary Chen reportedly said, "We deeply appreciate the COVID-19 related support from the Korean central government, local governments, and private companies," and mentioned that he had personally ordered the smooth resumption of operations for four Hyundai Motor partner companies within Liaoning Province.
The consulate explained that Donghae Sammyeong Jeonjang, a Korea-China joint venture and a secondary partner of Hyundai Motor located in Shenyang, had difficulty resuming operations due to a suspected patient nearby, but the factory restarted operations from the 10th. Three Hyundai Motor partner companies located in Dandong also received operation permits on the 10th and are currently operating at a 95% capacity.
Six company representatives attended the meeting, including Donghae Sammyeong Jeonjang, Lotte Chemical, POSCO CLPC, Seogwang Electronics, Orion, and CJ Bio. The company officials voiced difficulties such as quarantine conditions for restarting factories, attendance issues due to the isolation of employees who had visited other regions, shortages of protective supplies like masks, and raw material supply problems caused by logistics disruptions.
Secretary Chen confirmed the policy to actively support Korean companies on the same basis as Chinese companies.
