[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] As internal discord grows within the United Future Party over the strategic nomination of Lee Eon-ju in Busan, lawmaker Yoo Seung-min has also raised doubts about the principles of Kim Hyung-o, the head of the nomination committee.
On the 19th, according to some media reports, Yoo conveyed this message to lawmaker Lee Hye-hoon of the United Future Party via text message.
The message Yoo sent to the nomination committee member included the content: "Whether it is Lee Eon-ju or the New Conservative Party, the unification is the same, but Lee Eon-ju avoids the difficult district of Gyeonggi Gwangmyeong and receives a single nomination in Busan, Lee Hye-hoon is cut off, Ji Sang-wook and Min Hyun-joo have primaries in the metropolitan area, and Ha Tae-kyung having a primary would violate fairness. There is a backlash questioning what Chairman Kim Hyung-o's principles are regarding the nominations."
Earlier, Chairman Kim of the nomination committee suggested the possibility of a strategic nomination by stating, "It is unfair to require lawmaker Lee Eon-ju, who has never run in Busan before, to participate in a primary." In response, incumbent lawmaker Kim Moo-sung from the district expressed concerns about vote splitting, and Lee Eon-ju countered by saying, "Nomination issues are the responsibility of the nomination committee, and it is not a matter for those who have withdrawn to interfere," setting up a confrontation.
