Candidate Lee Seok-hyung promised, "We will eradicate the deep-rooted evils in our society, fulfill the mandate of the people who were the main agents of the Candlelight Revolution, and create a fair and just political and social environment by abolishing privileges and special favors. We will realize substantive democracy through the reorganization of the separation, checks, and balances of power institutions, implement local autonomy for the people by abolishing and improving party nominations in local governments, and strive to prohibit all unreasonable forms of discrimination to protect individual human rights."
To this end, he said, "Among the privileges of lawmakers that the people demand to be abolished, such as hiring relatives as aides unrelated to legislative activities, special activity expenses, and the method of determining salaries, we will immediately return these privileges and seek improvements and alternatives for parts necessary for legislative activities. We will support the social stabilization of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (PCC) under the Moon Jae-in administration, complete reforms of the prosecution and power institutions, strengthen democratic control of power institutions, and create a citizen-centered local autonomy party nomination system to start politics for the people by the people. We will also enact comprehensive anti-discrimination laws and fake news punishment laws against rumors and hate news to build a just and more livable society," he emphasized.
He added, "We condemn Hwang Kyo-ahn, the candidate for the National Assembly in Jongno District, for referring to the May 18 Democratic Uprising as an 'incident,' and we will put an end to the distortion and denigration of the May 18 Democratic Uprising through anti-discrimination laws and fake news punishment laws."
