Eunpyeong-gu, Safety Inspection of Road Facilities and More in Preparation for Thaw Season Safety Inspection in Preparation for the 2019 Thawing Season at Jeungsan-dong Area On-site

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) will conduct safety inspections of road facilities and road slopes from February to April in preparation for the thawing season.

The district announced that, with the thawing season approaching, concerns about safety accidents such as ground subsidence caused by freezing and melting, collapse of bridges, retaining walls, stone walls, toppling, and falling rocks have arisen. Therefore, they will carry out safety inspections to prevent these issues in advance through facility inspections.

The inspection facilities include 27 bridges, 1 tunnel, 13 road retaining walls, and 11 road slopes and stone walls within the area, totaling 52 locations. Responsible officials and external experts will jointly conduct focused inspections on the condition of the facilities. Key inspection items include the occurrence and progression of concrete cracks, collapse of abutments and piers, risk of toppling, and the occurrence of cracks and bulging in stone walls and retaining walls.

Based on the inspection results, issues that can be corrected on-site will be addressed immediately. If serious defects are found, detailed safety diagnoses and repairs or reinforcements will be carried out to strengthen proactive prevention measures and minimize casualties and property damage.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, emphasized the importance of thorough safety inspections to ensure that no safety accidents occur during the thawing season and stressed the importance of preemptive measures so that identified risks can be promptly addressed.
