[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Jo Hyo-sang (78) was inaugurated as the first elected president of the Yongin City Sports Council in Gyeonggi Province on the 19th.
President Jo previously served as chairman of the Advisory Committee of the Yongin City Talent Development Foundation and as the 8th to 14th president of the Yongin City Football Association. He was elected as the first elected president of the Sports Council in the election held on the 13th of last month.
At the inauguration ceremony held in the mayor's office at City Hall on the same day, President Jo stated, "I will dedicate myself to raising the level of community sports, elite sports, and school sports to a higher level and to the development of the Sports Council, so that Yongin City can become a premium sports city."
On the same day, Mayor Baek Gun-gi of Yongin City handed over the position of president of the Yongin City Sports Council, which he had served ex officio following the inauguration of the elected sports council president.
Mayor Baek said, "The role of the first elected Sports Council is important for Yongin City's sports to make further leaps," and urged, "Please establish a centennial plan for Yongin City's sports and lead a diverse range of sports cultures."
Meanwhile, about 20 people attended the event, including Lee Geon-han, chairman of the Yongin City Council, former Sports Council presidents Yoon Byung-hee, Lee Jeong-moon, Kim Hak-gyu, former mayor Jeong Chan-min, and Sports Council officials.
