Chosun University Establishes Foundation to Realize Minlip University Identity

Selected for the Service Project "Empirical Study to Verify the Effectiveness of Introducing Public-Private Hybrid Universities"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chosun University (President Min Youngdon) announced on the 19th that it was recently selected for the Ministry of Education's commissioned project, "Empirical Study to Verify the Effectiveness of Introducing Public-Private Hybrid Private Universities."

The public-private hybrid private university policy involves improving governance by appointing a majority of the board of directors of private university foundations as public interest directors and establishing a financial committee, while the central government and local governments support 20-25% of operating expenses.

As one of the current administration's national tasks, the policy aims to strengthen the state's responsibility and transparency in the education of private universities, which account for more than 80% of domestic universities.

Before promoting this policy, the Ministry of Education aims to verify its effectiveness by introducing and operating the core elements of public-private hybrid private universities in the selected private universities for this commissioned project.

The research project involves seven researchers from the fields of education, public administration, political science, business administration, and law, including the principal investigator Professor Ji Byeonggeun (Department of Political Science and Diplomacy), and the final report is scheduled to be submitted by the end of June.

Chosun University expects that the introduction of public-private hybrid private universities will align with the identity of private universities and significantly strengthen its public nature as a "citizens' university."

Professor Ji Byeonggeun said, "Since Chosun University was established with funds collected by citizens on behalf of the state, the introduction of a public operation system holds great significance," adding, "We will faithfully carry out this research project, which will be the starting point for the introduction of public-private hybrid private universities."
