[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Lee Jin-bok, a three-term lawmaker of the United Future Party (Busan Dongnae), announced on the 19th that he will not run in the 21st general election. Lee stated that he would transfer his party affiliation to the Future Korea Party, the proportional representation satellite party of the United Future Party.
At a press conference held at the National Assembly Press Hall that afternoon, Lee said, "I have long felt deeply sorry to the people when the party split due to impeachment and lost power," adding, "I wanted to show the image of a responsible politician, but I judged that it would be irresponsible to just leave."
Lee said, "Now, through great unity, although not 100%, the party has largely aligned with the will of the people, so I want to put down this heavy burden without delay."
He added, "Although I will not run in this election to allow the party to carry out reformative and innovative nominations, I will transfer to the Future Korea Party to resist the flawed election law, contribute to the conservative victory and the general election win, and lay a solid foundation for the restoration of power, fulfilling my duty as a catalyst for reform."
Lee concluded, "I ask for much support and encouragement for the efforts of the United Future Party and the Future Korea Party for the nation and the people."
