[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 19th that it secured 55.3 billion KRW in national funding after nine projects were selected in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s public contest.
The nine projects selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism this year include ▲2020 Library, Museum, and Art Museum ‘One Venue One Troupe’ ▲Public Library Culture Day ▲Reading Books with Libraries ▲Public Library Construction (including remodeling) ▲Small Library Creation ▲Support for Extended Opening Hours ▲U-Library Establishment ▲Support for Reading Assistance Devices ▲Multicultural Services, securing a total of 55.264 billion KRW in national funding.
The ‘One Venue One Troupe’ project for libraries, museums, and art museums is being promoted to support creative cultural and artistic activities of local residents centered around libraries.
At Seo-gu Children’s Ecological Learning Library and Gwangsan-gu Singa Library, funding is provided for creative activities by talented local residents, including children’s role-playing with theater clubs and French embroidery.
The ‘Public Library Culture Day’ and ‘Reading Books with Libraries’ projects operate reading culture experience programs with actors, writers, and others for children from information-vulnerable groups at five libraries (Sangnok, Ilgok, Jangdeok, Singa, and Unnam Children’s Library).
The public library construction and remodeling project will invest 124.61 billion KRW, including national funding, in 20 locations including the representative library to be built in the Sangmu district, expanding libraries and improving the reading environment.
In addition, projects such as ▲support for extended opening hours ▲U-Library establishment ▲support for reading assistance devices ▲multicultural service support are expected to enhance citizens’ access to information and enjoyment of reading culture.
Kim Jun-young, Director of the City’s Culture, Tourism and Sports Office, said, “I hope that individual happiness is realized and social problems are solved through public libraries,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create a humanities community in Gwangju that spreads the spirit of the humanities and pursues the restoration of human life and its values.”
