[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 19th that, in response to the contraction of local consumption due to the recent spread of COVID-19, it will sell the ‘Muan Love Gift Certificate’ at a 10% discount from the 20th of this month until the 31st of next month, in consultation with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, to revitalize local commercial districts and invigorate the local economy.

This discount sale is a measure implemented to support local small business owners and neighborhood commercial districts facing difficulties and to revitalize the local economy, unlike discount sales conducted during holiday periods. The gift certificates can be purchased at NH Nonghyup Muan County Branch, local agricultural and livestock cooperatives, and the Nonghyup Jeonnam Headquarters (Namaak).

The county is issuing and selling 12 billion KRW worth of gift certificates this year, normally selling them at a 6% discount and at a 10% discount during special occasions such as holidays.

To prevent illegal distribution of the gift certificates, the purchase limit is set at 500,000 KRW per person per month and 6 million KRW per year. To ensure convenience for purchasers, over 1,300 affiliated stores including restaurants, marts, beauty salons, academies, and hospitals have been recruited and are regularly posted on the county’s website notice board.

Going forward, to facilitate smooth distribution of the gift certificates, an integrated computer network will be established, designating financial institutions not only including agricultural and livestock cooperatives but also the secondary financial institutions located in Muan County to handle sales and exchange operations. The number of affiliated stores will also be continuously increased.

A Muan County official stated, “This special discount sale of the Muan Love Gift Certificate is a special measure to revitalize the local economy depressed by COVID-19. We will thoroughly crack down on illegal distribution and refusal of gift certificates by affiliated stores and conduct guidance and inspections. We will do our best to achieve results through this special discount sale.”
