[Asia Economy Reporters Kang Nahum and Jeon Jinyoung] The Democratic Party of Korea decided on the 19th to strategically nominate former Blue House spokesperson Go Minjung for the Seoul Gwangjin-eul district. Former judge Lee Tanhee was strategically nominated for Gyeonggi Yongin-jeong, former Korean Confederation of Trade Unions chairman Kim Jooyoung for Gimpo-gap, and former Korea Institute for International Economic Policy president Lee Jaeyoung for Gyeongnam Yangsan-gap as strategic candidates.

Lee Geunhyung, the party’s strategic planning committee member and secretary of the Democratic Party’s nomination management committee, announced this to reporters immediately after the Supreme Council meeting that day.

Lee explained the background of Go’s strategic nomination, saying, "She worked closely with President Moon Jaein in state affairs and is the right person in terms of empathetic politics as a spokesperson for the people."

With this, Gwangjin-eul, which became a vacant seat after Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae announced she would not run in the general election, is entering a new phase with a showdown between former spokesperson Go and former Seoul Mayor Oh Sehoon.

Regarding the strategic nomination of former judge Lee, Lee said, "Former judge Lee, who fired the starting signal for judicial reform, was judged to be the right person to create a society of justice realization together with the people, so the nomination was decided." The Yongin-jeong district where former judge Lee will run is the constituency of Representative Pyo Changwon, who previously announced he would not run in the general election.

Additionally, former chairman Kim will compete in the main election in Gimpo-gap, the district of Representative Kim Doogwan, who is moving to run in Gyeongnam Yangsan-eul, and former president Lee will compete against incumbent United Future Party lawmaker Yoon Youngseok in Gyeongnam Yangsan-gap.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party confirmed a total of eight strategic candidates by this day. In the earlier first announcement, candidates were confirmed for ▲Seoul Jongno (former Prime Minister Lee Nakyeon) ▲Gyeongnam Yangsan-eul (Representative Kim Doogwan) ▲Gyeonggi Namyangju-byeong (lawyer Kim Yongmin) ▲Gyeonggi Goyang-byeong (lawyer Hong Jungmin).
