[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] On the 19th, Jeong Byeong-guk, a member of the Future United Party, said that the criticism of the Future United Party as "just the Saenuri Party again" was because "other parties, which planned election strategies assuming no conservative unification, have become fearful."
Jeong appeared on KBS Radio's 'Kim Kyung-rae's Strongest Current Affairs' that day and said, "Although unification has been achieved, the task we must undertake is innovation," adding, "For innovation at the level of the people's expectations, discord is inevitable, and those who are the targets of innovation will inevitably resist. However, since this was anticipated, it is a difficult path but one that must be taken. This is the people's command."
Regarding the leadership calling forward and greeting lawmakers from the New Conservative Party and Future Forward 4.0 at the first Future United Party caucus meeting the previous day, Jeong said, "The leadership allocated front seats to consider the minority and thought it would be good to greet them since they are a minority," adding, "I said that since the Future United Party was created with great effort by everyone, if we are to greet, it should be done together. So, we greeted together."
On Future United Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min's absence from the inauguration ceremony, Jeong said, "I believe the unification rapidly progressed thanks to Yoo's efforts. However, Yoo does not try to claim credit for it. I believe that once the election campaign officially begins, he will play a role in securing victory."
When asked if Yoo's absence was due to dissatisfaction with the unification, Jeong said, "It has only been two days since unification. This is just the beginning," adding, "Candidate screening is now in full swing, and those who decided not to run are stepping down simultaneously with the unification. I don't understand why people are so impatient."
Regarding the possibility of Yoo withdrawing his intention not to run and running in a difficult district in the metropolitan area, Jeong said, "Since it is not up to him, I cannot say," but added, "Based on Yoo's character that I have observed so far, I don't think he will accept it."
