[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] Four additional confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea were released from quarantine on the 19th. The total number of recovered patients has increased to 16.
No Hong-in, the chief officer of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, stated at the regular morning briefing, "Today, four people were released from quarantine as they no longer shed the virus," adding, "The patients released from quarantine are numbers 6, 10, 16, and 18." Among them, patients 16 (born in 1977, Korean female) and 18 (born in 1999, Korean female), a mother and daughter, were discharged from Jeonnam National University Hospital this morning. Patients 6 (born in 1964, Korean male) and 10 (born in 1966, Korean female), a married couple, have not yet confirmed their discharge schedule.
COVID-19 patients are released from quarantine if 48 hours have passed since symptoms disappeared and two consecutive real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests conducted at 24-hour intervals show negative results. This constitutes a complete recovery judgment for the infectious disease. Additionally, the attending medical staff make the final decision on discharge by considering the patient's underlying conditions and aftereffects.
As of the previous day (the 18th), 12 patients, including numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 11, 12, 14, 17, 22, and 28, have been declared recovered and discharged.
