First Minor Confirmed with 'COVID-19' in Suwon... Daughter of Patient No. 20

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The first minor confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has occurred in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.

Yeom Tae-young, mayor of Suwon, announced on Facebook on the 19th, "A 10-year-old female elementary school student who was under self-quarantine in Cheoncheon-dong, Jangan-gu, was confirmed as an infected patient," adding, "She is the daughter of the 20th confirmed patient and the niece of the 15th confirmed patient."

Mayor Yeom explained, "This patient was classified as a contact of the 15th confirmed patient and started self-quarantine on the 2nd, but on the 5th, she was reclassified as a contact of the 20th confirmed patient, extending the quarantine period," and "She developed a mild fever symptom the day before and tested positive after specimen testing."

Previously, the patient had tested negative in three specimen tests conducted over a period of fifteen days.

After the confirmation, she was transferred to Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, and the 20th patient, who was receiving treatment at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital, is also scheduled to be transferred to Bundang Seoul National University Hospital, where his daughter is hospitalized.

Meanwhile, at an emergency countermeasure meeting held at the city hall disaster safety situation room on the morning of the same day, Mayor Yeom said, "Although the confirmed patient was within our city's infectious disease control system, the continuous occurrence of confirmed patients with unidentified infection sources in other regions is increasing concerns about community infection," and instructed, "Do not let your guard down, and thoroughly prepare for community infection in line with Suwon City's policy of 'over-response.'"
