Sharing Preparation Details for the Tournament with the Korea Table Tennis Association

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Busan City shared preparation matters with the Korea Table Tennis Association about the ‘2020 Busan World Table Tennis Championships’ one month ahead.

On the 18th, Busan Mayor Oh Keo-don met with officials from the Korea Table Tennis Association and said, “Although there are difficulties in preparing for the event due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), we can fully overcome them with Busan’s quarantine capabilities and the mature awareness of its citizens,” adding, “We will make thorough preparations until the end of the event and establish a strict quarantine system.”

On the same day, Mayor Oh emphasized thorough preparation for overall matters such as transportation, accommodation, and tourism for participating countries during the event period. Then, on the afternoon of the 19th, he visited the organizing committee at BEXCO to check the preparation status through a briefing on the event’s progress. He also inspected thorough quarantine measures against COVID-19. On the 21st, a meeting with related organizations will be convened to discuss current issues and countermeasures.

Busan City and the event organizing committee plan to unite their efforts in promotion to ensure the successful hosting of the World Table Tennis Championships, held for the first time in Korea, while maintaining vigilance against COVID-19. On the 21st, the event mascots ‘Ana’ and ‘Onna’ will be installed at Busan Station to promote the event to citizens. Busan City also plans to actively request other cities and provinces to promote the event so that the public can take an interest in it.

Busan City and the Korea Table Tennis Association will continue to make efforts until the end for the participation of the North Korean team, as reflected in this event’s title, ‘one table one world,’ and will continuously check necessary matters.
