Busan Coast Guard Conducts 'Unannounced Drill' for Safe Seas

Unannounced Emergency Response Drills Conducted Over 4 Days at 7 Local Police Stations

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] The Busan Maritime Police Station announced on the 19th that it will conduct surprise response drills at seven local police substations until the 20th to ensure safety in coastal waters.

This training was organized to build teamwork among personnel assigned after the regular personnel reshuffle in February. Based on a comprehensive analysis of accidents that occurred last year, the drills will focus on frequent coastal marine accidents at each substation, such as suicide jumps, missing marine leisure participants, and falls from rocky shores.

In the Busan coastal waters, accidents such as jumps due to despair over financial difficulties have recently occurred frequently, and safety accidents such as slips among marine leisure participants have increased due to the activation of various marine sports.

Lee Gwangjin, Chief of the Busan Maritime Police Station, said, “Since the difference of a few seconds can determine the precious life of a drowning person, we will conduct drills focusing on rapid on-site response to contribute to ensuring public safety.”
