Park Jumin "Let's Take This Opportunity to Improve the 'Freedom of Expression' System"

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Park Jumin, Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said at the Supreme Council meeting on the 19th regarding the case of reporting Professor Im Miri's column, "I believe this incident should not end with just an apology and criticism. Taking this opportunity, I would like to propose to the opposition party that both ruling and opposition parties, acknowledging the importance of freedom of expression, work on institutional improvements such as expanding freedom of expression under the Public Official Election Act."

Supreme Council Member Park explained, "Rather than just words, we want to clearly demonstrate each party's commitment to freedom of expression through institutional improvements and contribute to the substantial expansion of freedom of expression."

He continued, "Although the 20th National Assembly has little time left, bills to expand freedom of expression have already been proposed, and since both ruling and opposition parties have expressed the importance of freedom of expression in light of this incident, I believe institutional improvements can be sufficiently achieved."
