[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] The Democratic Party of Korea urged, regarding the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), "The government will respond well, so we ask the public to trust and respond accordingly."

Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party, said at the Supreme Council meeting on the 19th, "It has been exactly one month since the first confirmed case of the coronavirus," adding, "The government has been working hard, and the public has been responding very well. I saw in an article that a citizen who returned from Wuhan found great comfort in the fact that there is a country, and realized the importance of a strong nation and a capable government. There could be no greater words of encouragement for the medical staff who are fully committed to quarantine efforts."

He continued, "Currently, the COVID-19 situation is placing a huge burden on the economy, which is seeing job growth and recovery, especially affecting small and medium-sized enterprises, self-employed businesses, and cultural-related companies. If prolonged, there is a concern that economic vitality and momentum will be lost."

He then said, "I once again ask you to trust the government and join in overcoming this extraordinary economic situation."

Lee In-young, floor leader of the Democratic Party, said, "The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that COVID-19 is entering a new phase," adding, "It is known that the quarantine authorities have thoroughly prepared in advance. We ask for efforts to prevent community spread through prior preparation."

He continued, "Just as we responded well to the first wave, I believe we will respond well to the second wave, and I repeatedly ask our citizens to trust the quarantine authorities and respond promptly."
