[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) held a 'KEPCO-Small and Medium Enterprise Cooperation Energy Management System (K-BEMS) Export Pilot Project Completion Ceremony' on the 18th at PUCMM (Pontificia Universidad Cat?lica Madre y Maestra) University in the Dominican Republic.
The completion ceremony was attended by about 100 people, including Lee Junho, Head of KEPCO's New Renewable Energy Business Division, Kim Byung-yeon, Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Angel Cano, Chairman of the Dominican National Energy Commission (CNE), and Alfredo, President of PUCMM University.
The KEPCO-type Energy Management System (K-BEMS, KEPCO Building Energy Management System) is a system that collects, analyzes, and controls real-time usage information of various energy sources such as electricity, gas, and heat, proposing the optimal mix to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs.
This project is a cooperation model between KEPCO and small and medium enterprises, conducted as a 10-month pilot project together with J&D Electronics, a tenant company in Naju Energy Valley, and the local Korean company ESD.
Going forward, KEPCO plans to maximize energy efficiency by building K-BEMS in local Dominican companies and hotels to optimally control lighting and heating and cooling facilities.
Angel Cano, Chairman of the National Energy Commission (CNE), stated, "The Dominican Republic is experiencing a rapid increase in electricity demand due to rapid economic development, making efficient energy management urgent. If K-BEMS is widely adopted in the future, it will greatly help improve national energy efficiency."
Lee Junho, Head of the New Renewable Energy Business Division, said, "Since we have laid the foundation for technological cooperation between the two countries, KEPCO will continue to cooperate to improve energy efficiency and expand renewable energy in the Dominican Republic."
Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic has been a long-standing partner of KEPCO in the Latin American region, maintaining close cooperation, including signing an additional contract worth $38 million with KEPCO last November for the improvement of aging distribution networks.
