[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The 4th floor of Lotte World Mall has evolved into a new-concept playground that brings together various attractions for kids. It offers diverse content including education, sports, and beauty, as well as customized spaces tailored to different age groups of children.
On the 19th, Lotte Asset Development announced the opening of the first offline store of the child care service startup ‘Jjaegak Ag-eo’ on the 4th floor of Lotte World Mall. Jjaegak Ag-eo is a kids startup providing child care services through an app. The offline Jjaegakseom Kids Class offers specialized kids care with teachers on site who directly look after the children.
The classes operate various educational content on a biweekly basis. They are mainly composed of ‘Urban Farmer Class,’ ‘Five Senses Class,’ ‘Drawing Class,’ and ‘STEAM Class.’ STEAM refers to integrated education in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
In the ‘Paper Playground’ made from eco-friendly materials, children can run and play under the guidance of professional play instructors and enjoy new themed art play every month. Especially, mothers with children aged 36 months and older can leave their kids at the playground and enjoy shopping and relaxation in the complex shopping mall.
On the 4th floor of Lotte World Mall, there is also ‘Champion Double Black Belt,’ a 1,320㎡ (approximately 400 pyeong) facility where children can enjoy physical activities. Champion Double Black Belt, which received positive responses from malling moms at Lotte Mall Suji last year, attracted 15,000 child customers within just two weeks after opening in January at Lotte World Mall. It features challenging rope climbing conquering three hills of different heights, a six-level complex challenge course called ‘Field Stadium,’ and a steep curved wall slide called ‘Curve Wall Slide’ that children can run up and conquer.
Also on the 4th floor of Lotte World Mall is the new media kids cafe ‘Puntory House,’ which combines advanced interactive technology. It is an edutainment play space that uses both brain and body, offering content enjoyable for toddlers through children. All content was planned and developed directly by researchers with master’s and doctoral degrees from the College of Engineering at Seoul National University, creating a new-concept play space that combines future technology, education, and play.
The experiential beauty playground ‘Chou Chou & Sse Ssi’ is especially popular among parents of girls. Children can enjoy a foot spa while wearing pink or sky-blue gowns and applying face masks. It also offers diverse nail design services, providing children with a unique experience.
Meanwhile, to ensure safety and peace of mind for both children and parents, Lotte World Mall has strengthened hygiene management. Jjaegakseom Kids Class provides hand sanitizers and conducts temperature checks upon entry, and disinfects educational tools and desks inside the store through a children’s facility hygiene management company. Champion Double Black Belt has installed children’s restrooms inside the facility and placed hand sanitizers and air purifiers throughout the store. Safety personnel are stationed at each play equipment, and first aid kits are prepared for emergencies. The play nets are designed with double layers and dense mesh considering children with small feet.
Lotte World Mall is also taking the lead in preventing COVID-19. On the 10th, after closing hours, the mall completed full disinfection of all facilities inside. Thermal cameras have been installed to continuously check customers’ temperatures, and customers with a temperature of 37.5°C or higher are handled according to procedures. Hand sanitizers are provided in customer spaces such as stroller rental stations, infant rest areas, and customer service centers, and preventive measures like hand washing and mask wearing are announced via posters and broadcasts. Employees work while wearing masks.
Kim Jae-yoon, Team Leader of Leasing Team 2 at Lotte Asset Development, said, “In addition, the 4th floor of Lotte World Mall houses kids clothing and shoe stores as well as kids-only beauty salons. Lotte World Mall is presenting diverse content for kids customers to ‘learn, play, run, and decorate,’ evolving into a space reminiscent of a kids-only theme park.”
