Hubei Province, the area most severely affected in China, recorded 1,693 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 132 deaths in a single day on the 18th.
In Wuhan, the outbreak epicenter within Hubei Province, the number of new confirmed cases and deaths were 1,660 and 116, respectively. Among the confirmed cases in Hubei Province, 9,289 are in critical condition, and 1,957 are in serious condition.
Earlier, the National Health Commission, which announces nationwide statistics in China, reported that as of the 17th, the cumulative nationwide confirmed COVID-19 cases totaled 72,436, with 1,868 deaths.
