Mention of President Moon Jae-in's Video Message at the US Embassy-North America Governors Association Reception
"It Smells Strongly of Servility and Submission to Foreign Powers"
North Korea criticized President Moon Jae-in's recent remarks, calling them "improper statements reeking strongly of servility and submission to foreign powers." Earlier on the 8th (local time), the Korean Embassy in Washington DC held a reception jointly with the National Governors Association (NGA) for governors and various figures at the ambassador's residence. President Moon evaluated the role and importance of the Korea-US alliance through a video message, which North Korea took issue with.
On the 19th, North Korea's anti-South propaganda outlet Uriminzokkiri published an article titled "Servility and Submission Only Worsen the Situation," stating, "The current South Korean authorities have clung to a policy of dependence on foreign powers until now, tasted the bitter consequences, yet still seem to lack awareness."
Uriminzokkiri did not mention President Moon by name but indirectly referred to him as the "South Korean ruler." However, by directly quoting President Moon's video message, it made clear that he was the target of the criticism.
The outlet argued, "Requesting and begging foreign powers to resolve internal national issues while expecting certain 'conditions' and 'environments' to be prepared is a foolish act and is no different from tightening the noose of subjugation around oneself."
It continued, "No matter how much one praises the 'devotion and sacrifice' or the 'great alliance,' there is nothing to gain from them, and the more one grovels, the more arrogant the overlords become."
Uriminzokkiri emphasized, "The servile behavior of the South Korean authorities, who are obsessed with the aggressive and subjugating 'Korea-US alliance,' only increases tension and the risk of war on the Korean Peninsula, rather than peace."
Meanwhile, in his video message, President Moon said, "The Korea-US alliance, forged in blood, has become a great alliance that goes beyond security to include economic and global cooperation. Over the past 70 years, the two countries have protected peace on the Korean Peninsula and security in Northeast Asia, and now we stand before the noble task of completing peace."
He also addressed the governors, calling them "a strong bridge for Korea-US exchanges and excellent partners in the economic alliance between the two countries," mentioning examples of Korean companies' investment in the US and job creation, and requested, "Thanks to the governors' interest, 2.55 million Korean Americans have been able to contribute to America's development in various fields. I ask for your continued interest and affection."
