Eastar Jet Presents Round-Trip Jeju Airfare to 100,000th Customer, Im Suk-young (F, 52), at Yongsan Jeju Youth Hostel
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “This is my first time traveling to Jeju Island with my two daughters. I never thought we would have such luck. It looks like this trip will be more enjoyable and happier than we expected,” said Im Suk-young (female, 52), who visited Yongsan Jeju Youth Hostel on the 18th.
Im’s family, who are also residents of Yongsan District, were selected as the 100,000th customers of Jeju Youth Hostel that day and received round-trip airfare for two to Jeju Island from Eastar Jet, a partner company of the district office.
The number of visitors to Jeju Youth Hostel (297 Ieodo-ro, Seogwipo City), operated by Yongsan District (District Mayor Seong Jang-hyun), exceeded 100,000 on the 18th.
This milestone was reached 2 years and 10 months after its opening.
The district opened Jeju Youth Hostel in April 2017 with the purpose of introducing a ‘new concept of universal welfare’ that combines rest, education, and experience for its residents. It was the first local government in the country to establish a resident rest facility on Jeju Island.
The facility is located on a 11,422㎡ site and consists of a main building with 1 basement floor and 3 above-ground floors, totaling 4,125㎡ in floor area, and an annex building with 2 above-ground floors and 274㎡ in floor area.
The main building includes 45 guest rooms, seminar rooms, a restaurant, karaoke rooms, and a billiard hall. The guest rooms vary in size: 10-pyeong (12 rooms), 15-pyeong (6 rooms), 20-pyeong (20 rooms), 25-pyeong (6 rooms), and 28-pyeong (1 room). The annex houses a caf?, convenience facilities, and the management office.
Additional facilities include a tangerine experience farm, a jokgu court (also used as a badminton court), an outdoor deck, and a barbecue area. Customized services are provided for family tourists as well as students on school trips.
A district official said, “Yakcheonsa Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in East Asia, is located right next to the youth hostel. Visitors can also enjoy Jeju’s natural treasures such as Jusangjeolli Cliff, Seogwipo Natural Recreation Forest, and Jeongbang Waterfall nearby.”
Room rates range from 60,000 to 120,000 KRW. Residents of the district can use the facility at half price (30,000 to 60,000 KRW). Some surcharges apply during the semi-peak season (April 15 to May 31, and October) and peak season (July 15 to August 25). Reservations can be made through the website (https://www.yongsanjejuyh.com/).
In 2018, the district signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Eastar Jet (CEO Choi Jong-gu) to promote the use of Jeju Youth Hostel.
District residents receive an additional 5% discount on the discounted prices offered on Eastar Jet’s website. To receive this, residents must register as ‘Corporate Privilege’ members on Eastar Jet’s website and enter the corresponding code. Identification proving residency must be presented when issuing tickets.
Eastar Jet attracted attention by providing round-trip airfare for two to Jeju Island for the 100,000th customer of Jeju Youth Hostel.
For group ticket reservations, it is recommended to use Dreaming Travel Co., Ltd. (☎6949-1166), which offers commission-free booking services. They also provide affordable travel packages and car rentals.
Seong Jang-hyun, Mayor of Yongsan District, said, “75% of Jeju Youth Hostel users are residents of Yongsan District. This means that one-third of all residents have visited the facility. We will continue to do our best to increase the welfare satisfaction of our residents.”
