Dobong-gu "Reduce Fine Dust and Earn Eco Mileage Special Points"

Dobong-gu "Reduce Fine Dust and Earn Eco Mileage Special Points"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) is implementing the ‘Eco Mileage Special Points’ system, which provides an additional 10,000 mileage points to households that save energy such as electricity and water during the ‘Fine Dust Seasonal Management Period’ to reduce fine dust.

‘Eco Mileage’ is a system in Seoul where households, businesses, and schools that save energy such as electricity, water, and city gas (district heating) receive mileage (incentives) based on their greenhouse gas reduction performance.

In particular, the district has set the ‘Fine Dust Seasonal Management Period (from last December to March this year)’ to eliminate fine dust, and if energy usage is reduced by more than 20% compared to the average of the previous two years during the period when fine dust is severe, a special Eco Mileage point worth 10,000 KRW per household is provided.

The mileage earned through energy savings can be used in various ways such as △traditional market gift certificates △mobile cultural gift certificates △apartment management fee deductions △local tax payments △LED stand exchanges △donations to energy-vulnerable groups.

For individual members, if energy (electricity, water, city gas, district heating) usage is reduced by 5% or more compared to the average usage of the same period in the previous two years every six months, mileage worth up to 100,000 KRW annually is provided.

For group members, if energy usage is reduced by 10% or more compared to the average usage of the same period in the previous two years every four months, and performance and best practices are evaluated and selected, incentives of up to 10 million KRW annually are provided for energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy facility support.

Applications can be made by signing up on the Eco Mileage website (ecomileage.seoul.go.kr) or by visiting the local community center or the Environmental Policy Division of the district office.

In addition, the district holds the ‘Eco Mileage Neighborhood Competition’ for local community centers. Through the competition, from last October to this September, the performance of Eco Mileage membership registration and promotional achievements by each neighborhood will be converted into scores, ranked, and incentives will be provided to the top nine neighborhoods.

Currently, the number of Eco Mileage members in Dobong-gu reaches 95,170, and the district was selected as the ‘Best District’ in both the first and second halves of 2018 and 2019 in the Seoul City ‘Eco Mileage Autonomous District Evaluation’.

Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “Eco Mileage is the first step in saving energy to reduce the increasingly serious fine dust and greenhouse gases, and active participation from residents is important. We will continue to strive for a Green City Dobong and do our best to play a leading role as the chair city of the Sustainable Development Local Government Council.”
