[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] On the 18th, Jeonnam Sinan-gun announced that on the 17th, it held a kickoff briefing session for the ‘Art of Taste Island Master Plan Research Project’ attended by about 40 people including County Governor Park Woo-ryang, the deputy governor, and department heads.

Led by Professor Kang Sung-guk of the Department of Food Engineering at Mokpo National University, the research project, which started last month, is scheduled to continue until November, aiming to develop the brand identity of Sinan as the ‘Art of Taste Island.’

The research project consists of ▲establishing an expo-type tourism system for stay-type tourism ▲presenting island-specific visions for building an art island ▲developing seasonal and regional island cuisine directions and creating hubs ▲establishing a lifelong learning system led by residents to create Sinan’s unique food culture ▲building institutional conditions to realize a food culture city and plans to realize gourmet cities on each island.

Additionally, it will propose linkage plans between projects, tourism revitalization plans, and connections with other local projects.

Professor Kang Hyung-ki (Chungbuk National University, Director of the Korea Local Autonomy Management Institute), participating in this project, said, “We are focusing on faithfully carrying out the analysis of Sinan’s food environment, Sinan-customized food culture vision, and mid- to long-term strategies.”

County Governor Park Woo-ryang requested, “Please establish a systematic food strategy to realize a gourmet tourism city and to designate Sinan as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.”

He added, “I hope Sinan becomes a vibrant island for young people through the food culture industry, including the production and distribution of high-quality ingredients based on Sinan’s abundant agricultural, marine, and livestock products, as well as cooking and hospitality services.”
