Cheong Wa Dae Explains Bold COVID-19 Measures... "The Purpose Is Not to Say It's Impossible but to Change Our Thinking"

[Asia Economy Reporters Ryu Jeong-min and Son Seon-hee] Kang Min-seok, spokesperson for the Blue House, explained on the 18th regarding President Moon Jae-in's remarks at the Cabinet meeting, "mentioning consumption coupons and purchase amount refunds is based on observed realities and parts directly confirmed with his own eyes," adding, "He believes the situation has reached a stage where such policies can be considered."

Spokesperson Kang stated, "There have been cases domestically where consumption coupons were issued as a means of refunding purchase amounts" and emphasized, "There are precedents even in past governments. Including these, it means keeping political options open and trying bold measures."

Spokesperson Kang explained, "It means finding creative methods and exploring all possible options. The remark was intended to encourage a shift in thinking rather than saying it cannot be done because there is no precedent."

Meanwhile, regarding the issue of supplementary budget formulation, Spokesperson Kang said, "It does not explicitly mean that a supplementary budget is being considered, but the government will review consumption stimulation measures," adding, "This also means comprehensively reviewing funding issues during the process."
