[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 18th that it will support a budget of 6.7 billion KRW for 25 educational cooperation projects this year to nurture future local talents.
In September last year, the city held an Education Support Deliberation Committee meeting to review projects necessary for talent development and approved a total of 25 projects, including support for the operation of the Hub English Experience Center.
The selected educational cooperation projects include ▲support for the operation of the Hub English Experience Center ▲support for youth international exchange activities ▲support for the operation of English experience camps during vacations ▲support for after-school programs at private kindergartens ▲support for life science classrooms ▲support for software education ▲operation of career experience support centers ▲operation of the Gwangju Student Independence Movement History Academy ▲support for the operation of Gwangju Science Academy for the Gifted ▲support for the Yongjeon Deulnorae-linked cultural arts education program ▲support for lifelong education facilities for the disabled, and will be implemented starting next month.
Among these, the Hub English Experience Center, youth international exchange activities, and English experience camps during vacations aim to strengthen the foundation of foreign language public education and prioritize support for children from low-income families with limited opportunities for overseas cultural experiences, thereby reducing private education costs and fostering global talents.
Additionally, partial support for the Gwangju Science Academy for the Gifted and after-school programs at private kindergartens is planned to meet parents' educational demands and improve satisfaction with the educational environment.
Through software (SW) education suitable for the 4th Industrial Revolution and science experience activities in daily life, opportunities will be provided for youth to enhance logical thinking and creativity, and various career and job programs will be operated to assist personalized career exploration and school career education for students.
Son Ok-su, head of the Youth and Adolescents Division of the city, said, “Nurturing excellent local talents in the rapidly changing 4th Industrial Revolution era is a preemptive investment for the future of Gwangju,” and added, “We will continue to focus on developing various educational programs and expanding learning opportunities together with the Office of Education.”
