Yongin Severance Hospital to Open on the 1st of Next Month

[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The first large-scale general hospital in the Yongin area of Gyeonggi Province will open in March.

Yongin City announced on the 18th that Yonsei University College of Medicine Yongin Severance Hospital in Dongbaek District, Giheung-gu, will open on the 1st of next month.

Located at 363 Dongbaek Jukjeon-daero, this hospital is built on a 74,484㎡ site with 4 basement floors and 13 above-ground floors, totaling a floor area of 111,633㎡. It will open next month with 462 beds and later expand to 708 beds.

Yongin Severance Hospital will start with 33 medical departments and expand its medical staff and support personnel to 2,100, eventually increasing the number of departments to 39 in the long term.

In this regard, the hospital explained that it plans to establish the country's first Department of Hospital Medicine and assign 24-hour hospitalist (professor) staff to provide high-quality medical services to citizens.

The hospital will also operate specialized centers such as the Degenerative Brain Disease Center and Cardiovascular Center, and plans to implement a 5G-based digital innovation hospital by building an AI (Artificial Intelligence)-based imaging analysis system and a high-speed communication network.

Yongin Severance Hospital is an expansion and relocation of the Yongin Severance Hospital located in Yeokbuk-dong, and it is the first large-scale general hospital with more than 400 beds in the Yongin area.

In the Yongin area, there are general hospitals such as Yongin Severance Hospital in Yeokbuk-dong, Davos Hospital, and Gangnam Hospital, but their scale was not large, and the number of medical departments was limited.

Accordingly, the city has made various long-term efforts targeting Yonsei University to attract a large-scale general hospital to Dongbaek District.

In particular, when Yonsei University halted construction after filing a groundbreaking report citing lack of business feasibility, the city allocated industrial complex quotas to create the Yonsei Medical Complex Industrial Park near the hospital and decided to change the zoning to allow redevelopment of the Yongin Severance Hospital site in Yeokbuk-dong.

Additionally, to enable early opening of the hospital, temporary use was approved in December last year before the building's completion.

Baek Gun-gi, Mayor of Yongin, said, "I am very pleased that Yongin, a large city with a population of 1.08 million but without a leading large-scale general hospital, will now have Yonsei University College of Medicine Yongin Severance Hospital providing top-level medical services."

Meanwhile, with the hospital's opening, the city plans to do its best to ensure the smooth development of the Yonsei Medical Complex Industrial Park, which will be built on 167,283㎡ at 724-7 Jung-dong, Giheung-gu.
