Jeonbuk Province Expands Priority Purchase Targets for Eco-Friendly Agricultural Products

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Jeonbuk Province announced on the 18th that the Act on the Promotion of Environmentally Friendly Agriculture and Fisheries and the Management and Support of Organic Food (hereinafter referred to as the Environmentally Friendly Agriculture and Fisheries Act) has been amended to expand the institutions and organizations that can be requested to prioritize the purchase of environmentally friendly agricultural products.

Previously, only public institutions and agriculture and fisheries-related organizations could be requested to prioritize the purchase of environmentally friendly agricultural products, but with this amendment, institutions and organizations providing public meals such as universities, military units, and kindergartens are now also included.

Through the amendment of the law, it is expected that the consumption of environmentally friendly agricultural products will expand, leading to increased income for farmers practicing environmentally friendly agriculture.

The main consumers of environmentally friendly agricultural products are public meal institutions such as school meals, so this amendment is expected to play a significant role in enhancing the competitiveness of environmentally friendly agriculture.

Additionally, by expanding new demand channels for environmentally friendly agricultural products, the value of environmentally friendly agriculture, which benefits both the environment and people, will be spread, and the pride of farmers producing environmentally friendly agricultural products is also expected to increase.

A Jeonbuk Province official stated, “In connection with the amendment of the Environmentally Friendly Agriculture and Fisheries Act, we have requested universities and military units in the province to prioritize the purchase of environmentally friendly agricultural products,” and added, “In the future, we plan to actively promote environmentally friendly agriculture through continuous publicity and education on the excellence, safety, and necessity of environmentally friendly agricultural products not only to producers but also to consumers.”
