Busan Port Authority and Samsung SDS Sign Logistics Center Operation Agreement in Rotterdam

Completed and Operational in June 2021

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced on the 18th that it has signed an operation contract for the Rotterdam logistics center in the Netherlands with Samsung SDS.

The operation contract signing ceremony was attended by Hong Won-pyo, CEO of Samsung SDS, Ms. Joanne Doorneward, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Korea, and officials from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

BPA selected Samsung SDS as the preferred negotiation partner through an open competitive bidding process at the end of December last year, and has been negotiating detailed operations including the operation period and scope with Samsung SDS for the past two months.

Samsung SDS will operate the logistics center for 10 years from the opening of the logistics center and provide comprehensive logistics services to domestic small and medium-sized shippers using the logistics center.

Samsung SDS plans to apply AI and big data analysis techniques based on its own integrated logistics platform (Cello) and local logistics center experience to create a model case of an IT-based intelligent logistics center.

BPA plans to start construction of the logistics center in September and complete and operate it by June 2021.

Nam Ki-chan, President of Busan Port Authority, said, “We will successfully operate the logistics center at the Port of Rotterdam, the gateway to Europe, with Samsung SDS, which provides global IT solutions and logistics services, and continue to promote win-win cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises along with providing a stable logistics platform for domestic companies entering Europe.”

Hong Won-pyo, CEO of Samsung SDS, stated, “By applying AI and big data, core technologies of digital transformation, we will actively support Busan Port Authority’s global expansion and actively contribute to the win-win growth of the logistics industry.”
