Gyeonggi International Boat Show Postponed to June to Prevent COVID-19 Spread

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The 'Gyeonggi International Boat Show,' Asia's largest event of its kind now in its 13th year, has been postponed from March to June to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 18th that it has decided to postpone the '2020 13th Gyeonggi International Boat Show,' originally scheduled for next month, to June in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Gyeonggi International Boat Show was scheduled to be held for four days from the 13th to the 15th of next month at KINTEX in Goyang. Notably, this year's event was to be held jointly with the Korea Fishing Expo, attracting significant attention.

However, the province made the final decision to postpone the event, considering that it would be difficult to effectively prevent virus spread at such a large-scale event with many attendees.

Accordingly, this year's event will be held together with the Korea Fishing Expo from June 5th to 7th.

Kim Gyu-sik, Director of Economic Planning at the province, stated, "We had been preparing the Gyeonggi International Boat Show with great care this year, but we decided to postpone it prioritizing the protection of public health and alleviating public anxiety. We will proceed with establishing quarantine measures and preparing for the exhibition without any setbacks during the remaining period."

The Gyeonggi International Boat Show is the largest specialized exhibition in Korea where visitors can explore the present and future of the marine leisure industry, including boats, yachts, parts and equipment, scuba diving, and camping. It has been held since 2008 to expand the base of the marine leisure industry.
