Gwangju Seo-gu Council Passes Ordinance Proposal to Repeal 'Dance Permission'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 18th that at the 1st plenary session of the 282nd extraordinary meeting held on the 17th, it submitted and approved the agenda item ‘Ordinance to Repeal the Dance Permission Ordinance.’

The ‘Ordinance to Repeal the Dance Permission Ordinance’ was primarily proposed by Councilor Kim Taejin.

Councilor Kim explained that since only two establishments have been operating under the ordinance since its enactment, it is considered a preferential ordinance, and the repeal proposal was made to correct issues such as fairness.

The Seo-gu Council formed a special committee to investigate the cause and establish measures to prevent recurrence of the collapse accident of the mezzanine structure inside a club in Chipyeong-dong that occurred on July 27 last year, conducting an administrative investigation for a total of 19 days.

Subsequently, at the 277th extraordinary meeting, the council recommended repealing the ‘Ordinance on the Operation of General Restaurants Where Dancing is Permitted in the Seats of Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City.’

Councilor Kim said, “The relevant department prepared a complete revision bill based on the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety’s standard ordinance during the 281st extraordinary meeting session to strengthen guidance, inspection, and safety standards for dance-permitted establishments and submitted it to the standing committee, but it was rejected. I proposed the ordinance to repeal the dance permission ordinance to ensure residents’ safety and establish sound business order.”
